Lakshmi Ramesh
I am a PhD Student at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. I am co-supervised by Prof. Martin Wahl (University of Bielefeld) and Prof. Bernd Sturmfels (Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences).
Academic Interests
I am interested in applications of algebraic geometry, algebraic analysis and combinatorics in statistics. As data encountered in applications often take the form of low dimensional structures such as manifolds or algebraic varieties in high dimensional ambient spaces, these are the structures I am interested in. I am specifically interested in intersections of high dimensional convex bodies. My long term goal is to unify statistics and algebraic statistics.
Current Activities
- I am organising a reading group on Intersection Theory. We are reading 3264 & All That by Eisenbud and Harris. Here is the upcoming schedule:
- 16 April 10:00 - Crash Course on Algebraic Geometry, Introduction to Chow Rings (Presented by Alec Schmutz)
- 23 April 10:00 - Computing Chow Rings, First Examples (Presented by Alec Schmutz)
- 30 April 10:00 - Grassmannians (Presented by Lakshmi)
- 7 May 10:00 - Grassmannians (Presented by Lakshmi) We also meet on Fridays at 10:00 to discuss Exercises. Feel free to email me if you are interested.
- I teach Bharatanatyam at Universität Bielefeld. Feel free to email me to find out more.
Past Experience
I was a Master’s student at RPTU Kaiserslautern, Germany from 2021-2024, specializing in Computer Algebra and Algebraic Geometry. I completed my master’s thesis “Free Resolutions over the Exterior Algebra with Parallel Structures” with the guidance of Dr. Janko Boehm.
I was a developer of the open source computer algebra systems OSCAR and Singular. My contributions are visible in my GitHub.
I was a BS-MS student at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali, India from 2015-2020. I completed my masters degree in mathematics with the thesis “Affine Group Schemes” under the guidance of Dr. Varadharaj Srinivasan.
